Lesley MacKay- Volunteer Counsellor
My own journey into GCA was one of serendipity and persistence which I remain truly grateful for today. Having sent in my CV and an application, I essentially bombarded one of the directors for some advice and feedback. She luckily recognised my potential and offered me some sessional shifts.
From there, I have enjoyed participating in many of the exciting facets of GCA’s alcohol harm reduction and recovery work such as schools education, events, support work and training. Last year after completing my counselling skills qualification I came on board as a volunteer counsellor which has cemented me within the bricks and mortar here!
The people, message and office of GCA feel like home to me now and I hope that wherever my career takes me to I will maintain this bond and promote the excellent work they do. I feel like I was given an opportunity and someone believed in me right from the beginning; it’s exactly that kind of support I try to provide now in my work and daily life, whatever I’m doing.
