Jim’s story

Jim Thompson – Volunteer Counsellor

I feel appreciated and part of a team working towards a common goal of helping others…

I started volunteering at GCA back in 2011, I was studying towards my Diploma in Counselling after completing my COSCA Certificate in Counselling and I was looking to gain experience as a Counsellor. It was also an opportunity to give something back to the community.

As a counsellor it can be very humbling and rewarding.  I have met some wonderful people and gained so much knowledge and experience from working with GCA and also the client group I work with.

I have grown as a person and a counsellor due to the appreciation, respect and encouragement from everyone at GCA.  I have been fortunate to gain paid work within GCA and I also remain a volunteer working in the community helping others move forward with their lives.
