Who we do it with
GCA Communities service works in partnership with the local community (local people and organisations) to reduce alcohol and drug related harm by providing information and advice, groupwork and training. The Service works with a wide range of age groups, from primary school children to the elderly. The staff also work with people from various backgrounds, from the disadvantaged in the communities to professional staff working within Glasow City . The Services specialise in developing local campaigns and implements city-wide and national campaigns locally.
Alcohol, Drugs and Older People
We offer a range of community based engagement programmes to reach out to adults and older people and work in partnership to challenge attitudes, increase knowledge and improve skills to enable individuals to make safer choices.
Alcohol and Women
We develop a range of programmes in partnership with other organisations and communities to engage with women, explore issues around alcohol and encourage positive lifestyle choices.
Alcohol Brief Interventions
Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs) are short structured conversations which support an individual to explore their alcohol use. GCA provides the opportunity for individuals to explore their alcohol use within local community settings and provides ABIs and signposting as appropriate.
Community Alcohol Campaigns
A multi-partner approach to working with the licensing process, promoting responsible consumption and engaging and working within communities to identify and respond to alcohol related problems at a neighbourhood level.
Workforce Development
A range of training and resources for community based staff supporting their workforce development and increasing their confidence to explore alcohol and drug issues.
Volunteering, Training and Employment Opportunities
The Ripple Effect programme is a participatory approach to exploring and responding to the effects of alcohol and drugs within the community. GCA offers a positive and encouraging environment for community researchers to develop through the volunteering pathway.
